Ultra Cheap SDR Receiver (RTL2832U chip)

A few DX'ers have asked me what kind of software
is needed to run the NOXON DAB stick receiving frequencies from
60 - 900 mHz.

First let me tell you where to obtain the
Terratec Noxon DAB stick.
I bought mine at Conrad for € 25,00 but a
DAB or DVB-T stick can also be obtained on Ebay.

As you can read this dongle based on the E4000 tuner IC
has a very large tunable range of 64 - 1700 mHz
and has also better filters than the Noxon.

But of course there are more sellers who offer
the DVB-T 2832U based dongle, let Google search for you.

The software you need for a proper working of the dongle
you can find here.

Be aware do NOT install the DAB or DVB-T software coming
with the CD, but ONLY the drivers as marked on this picture.

But of course where HDSDR is mentioned you can put the unzipped files
in the directory of your own choice i.e.
WRplus or SDRsharp.

An updated librtl2832++.dll is available for separate download
to let the dongle work for frequencies above 300 mHz.
See "News in brief":

As already mentioned in a earlier post that for OIRT DX
I'm using SDRsharp which you can download here.

  2. Hi David,

I have purchased the dongle expecially for DX'ing on the OIRT Band, because I have no rx for this band.
Last year I tried the OIRT with the PMSDR
but my pmsdr only goes to 70 mHz.

The dongle works very good on OIRT because it is not so crowdy as on FM band 2.
The SDRsharp produce a very good sound.
I can record 2 mHz in WRplus or HDSDR.

Until now I really didn't check on video
carriers with the dongle but I presume
    the pmsdr is better.
But I will check this in due course.
A friend of mine (HAM operator) who has also the pmsdr and the dongle found the dongle better on 50 mHz ie giving stronger signals.

    cheers
    John
