Amazing tropo conditions on 23 September 2013

An amazing day of tropo, reception lasted all day with loads of French stations, mostly from NW France.
In the afternoon there was a nice tropo duct to Switzerland (Säntis,Rigi) and to Austria (Bregenz 1,Salzburg) Austria is very rare here.

Sporadic Es TV Band 1 and OIRT

Surprisingly good Sporadic Es the last few days and I have the feeling that the Es season isn't over yet.
Band 1 opened today at 1300 hrs local time with strong video from

Sporadic Es into Italy

It was a very rainy day in the Netherlands today, but fortunately there was nice Es from Italy, so the day was still not completely fallen in the water.
This morning there was fair video from Jordan on channel E3 however with an unstable signal as Syria bothered on the same channel.
Halfway through the morning Band 2 was open to Italy mainly to Bari and Calabria region.
Around noon I could log some Italian STL's of which most are Personal first.

Only weak activity in ionosphere this day. Late afternoon there were very short peaks to direction south; Italy, Balkan, Greece and Turkey, each lasting only 1 -2 minutes. But very little of it reached RDS levels.

Sporadic Es in TV Band 1 and FM Band 2

The Sporadic Es clouds were very active today with nice signals in TV Band 1 and OIRT this morning and FM Band 2 was open in the afternoon to Italy, Algeria and Spain. However the signals were very unstable at my location.

Sporadic Es in TV Band 1

Through the day sometimes TV Band 1 was open for mostly a short period with the common stuff from Russia/Belarus/Ukraine and Hungary.
The strongest video came tonight from Pershy Kanal/Kyiv on Channel R2.

After a few hours silence Sporadic Es returned and TV Band1 was open.
Channel R1 was a mess with very strong signals from BLR/UKR and RUS.
However Channel R2 had a clear M1 from Balti/Moldova

The OIRT band had this afternoon Belarus, Ukraine and Russia starting just after lunchtime. Those were the strongest Es of the day. There was some activity on band 2 into Italy tonight but it was shortlived and very weak.

It began already yesterday and lasted until the beginning of monday evening with extremely good tropo to Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Scotland. A nice surprise was to log among the bulk of powerhouses a few Norwegian low power stations

Prime TV was seen on channel R2 (video 59.25 Mhz) this morning
which is very rare as normally the common M1 from Balti is seen
during an Es opening to Moldova.

After a few days with hardly Es, FM band 2 was open late afternoon to Tunesia and Italy.
Pity that the opening didn't lasted long.
Tunesia is very rare here in the Northern Part of The Netherlands.
It is mostly Algeria when there is a Es opening to the South.

Sporadic Es in TV Band 1 - Channel E3 - JRTV Jordan

On David Hamilton's band1tvdx.blogspot.com I found an interesting item how to clean up tvdx video's by using VLC and a Screen recorder.

As you can see in this video I sometimes clean up the video resulting in avoiding the blur motion.

This was received in the Netherlands on June 18, 2013.

Not much of interest to report today.

Only the common stuff from Russia/Belarus was seen in TV Band 1 on channel R1 and R2.

On channel R3 - 5. Kanal from St. Petersburg was seen for a brief moment.

In the afternoon FM Band 2 was open into Italy and on channel E3 was Jordan in with good video, but due to a big thunderstorm I had to disconnect the antennas.

A bit of a difficult day for Band II Es propagation. While almost all of Europe was showing high MUF values, the band at my location stayed quiet for ages.

And when it did take-off, ID-ing stations appeared to be very difficult due to heavy fading and a wide skip area giving 2-3 stations on each frequency.

Finally the band opened here at 1316 utc into Greece and Turkey and some Balkan's.

On the whole not a bad day at all.

As you will gather by my lack of posts as nothing of interest has been happening on TV Band 1 en FM Band 2 at my location during the past weeks.

But I will remember 12 Juni 2013. Wow, what a day! I don't think the Es stopped this day. Propagation covered from Baltic States round to North Africa on and off all day. Nice to hear Estonia and Lithuania again. TV Band 1 had a good start in the morning with fair video from Jordan on Channel E3.

FM Band II was open for almost eleven hours. Total number of countries received (11).

A UNID solved !!

This one was logged by me as a unid on 21.st May at 0730 utc on Channel R1 - 49.75 mHz.

Matthias (DX-Matze) from UKW / TV-DX Forum solved this unid.

It is the 5. Kanal Sowetsk transmitter in the Oblast Kaliningrad near the Lithuania border.

Must be a low power tx.

Today's Sporadic-Es surprise was the capture of Iran on channel E2 late afternoon

Video could be seen for a brief moment as INTER from Ukraine was strong on channel R1 and blocked also E2.

On 89.50 mHz I could catch a ID of Radio Espacio transmitting with only 50 watt from Cabrerizos (CAL-SA).

Sporadic- Es in Band 1 from Ukraine - 16.05.2013

I had strong video yesterday afternoon from Inter/Ukraine om channel R1 - 49.750 Mhz.

Suddenly Inter faded out and a unid tx popped up



Matthias and Ulli from the German UKW/ TV-DX-Forum wrote that the unid is the 200 watt transmitter MEGA-TV from Vinnytsya/Ukraine.

So there is still something to discover in today's times of switching off ....

First signs of Sporadic Es was noticed this afternoon in TV Band 1. It started around noontime on Channel R1 with stable video from Inter/Ukraine, 1 TV/Russia and BT-1/Belarus.
